That’s Nice: Type to Design

What is it about typography that fascinates us so much? We're surrounded by letters and use them every day to communicate, but to some (including me) the seemingly ordinary can become far more than a means of communication and are art-forms in themselves.

A project called 36 Days of Type invites designers, illustrators and graphic artists to give their particular view on the signs from our alphabet.
Described as '36 days of restless creativity, in which participants are challenged to design a letter or number for each day, resulting in an overall view of the ability to represent the same sign from many different perspectives. A project that aims to create a space for creation around typography and its endless graphic possibilities.'

Participants upload their images to Instagram, but the creators of this project have gone one step further - it is not just a feed of typography based Instagram images; it has been used to create a custom, randomly generated font, with it's own website.

To try it out visit and start typing. Switch letters around until you're happy and then save your custom message and share it with others.
