Why did you get into dancing? I got into dancing as I love music and have always been moving to it since I can remember. It was a way for me to express myself and communicate in a new way, as I used to be very shy and quiet. I joined a church dance group in my earlier years and this opened me up to wanting to take dance seriously as I realised what an impact it can have as an art form.

When did you start Choreographing? I remember making up little dance routines as a teen but nothing serious until I started my official first steps as a choreographer around 2003.

What have been your career highlights to date? Hmm so many highlights for me from performing with my company Rebirth in Times Square New York, to dancing with a famous artist on X-factor and the olympic torch concert. Having the opportunity to work with top dance companies such as Zoonation and Boy Blue where I learnt so much. I've also choreographed some fun music videos in my time. There are too many to list.

Why did you found The Rebirth Network? Rebirth came out of a vision God gave me to see dance used for more than just steps, and I felt that this could bring change and inspire others to do the same. Rebirth is also a great place for Christian dance artists to grow and gain opportunities..

What are the biggest hurdles you've had to overcome as a dancer/choreographer/director? I would say as a dancer or choreographer having to say no to certain projects due to my beliefs, or not getting a lot of support from the mainstream for the same reason. Staying inspired to do what I do and not follow other people can be difficult, and at the times you feel you want to give up it can be hard to keep going. Getting funding is always an obstacle to overcome as well.

What is your advice to young aspiring choreographers reading this? To first be a student of dance and learn and educate yourself as much as you can, but more than that to believe and not give up at every hurdle. Let your imagination go and don't be boxed in by society.

What can we expect from you this coming winter 2014? Well myself and Rebirth have created a new show called “Reuben Parker” which is a dance theatre show that will be on for two days on 7th and 8th November in a theatre in London. It’s going to be our biggest project yet and will be one for all to see.
