One minute with photographer and videographer Jelani Pomell
Name: Jelani Pomell
Creative Mediums: Photography & Videography
Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?
I'm 23 and I'm from London. I'm a photographer and videographer working closely within the music and fashion industry. My main clients are Labrinth, River Island, Mr Porter, Sony and Sennheiser.
How did you get into photography?
I fell in love with people! After that photography became the natural extension of that love.
Do you have a studio or do you work on location?
Do you have a favourite shoot location?
My head, a lot of shoots take place in my head first!!
What's the most exciting project you've ever worked on?
It has to be working with a youth charity called 'Reachin' Higher' based in Croydon. Over the last few years I have run photography and videography workshops, helping to photograph and create short films giving the young people a taster of how amazing it is to create. For me there is nothing more important than giving back to the community and empowering the next generation of youth.
What's your favourite camera?
It would have to be a LEICA M9! I've only ever used it once and it blew my mind. However, the camera that has fought by my side has to be my Canon 5d Mark ii. It's a glorious invention!
What advice would you give to aspiring photographers?
Study photography and learn from the greats, read, watch films, photograph the things that YOU like, shoot loads, fail fail fail and fail some more! And TRAVEL! Explore the diversities of this beautiful world.
